Language requirements for launching an initiative

Hello,

Here, we can talk about the language requirements for launching an initiative.

Are there any language requirements for launching an ECI?

Practically speaking: if the 7 organisers speak the same language (which is not one of the European Commission's working languages EN, FR, DE), can they submit the initiative in their own language? Or is there a language requirement?

Does the Commission translate into all EU languages if the initiative is accepted?

Thank you!

Hello,

Many thanks for starting this conversation, which touches upon a very important aspect related to the launch of a European citizens' initiative.

To answer this question, organisers can submit an initiative in any of the 24 official languages of the EU.

In order to get a proposed initiative registered, the representative of the group of organisers needs to set up an organiser account with his/her email address and fill in the required fields. The main content of the proposed initiative must not be longer than 1200 characters (spaces not included). An annex of 5000 characters (spaces not included) maximum may also be added

Once the initiative is registered, the European Commission provides free translation of the content of the initiative (including its annex) in all EU languages.
