With obesity and diabetes being the new normal, social responsibility is required regarding the disclosure sugar/fructose content of foods in an easy to comprehend manner.
Not all EU citizens read labels or know how to calculate the sugar content for each convenience food purchase on the nutritional tables. This leads to unintentional over-consumption of sugar/fructose that harms their or their children’s health.
4g of sugar is equal to one teaspoon. As people recognise teaspoons easier than grams I suggest an EU policy for an icon to be placed on the front of the package displaying the total amount of sugar/fructose represented in teaspoons so that it is quick, easy to read and easy to understand.
