Acids and lactose ingredients are added in pharmaceuticals, supplements and convenience foods. People who suffer from lactose intolerances and Acid Reflux related health issues are finding it difficult to find these products without these kind of additives that harm their health.

An EU policy where companies provide their product with alternatives for people with intolerances is required. Or at the very least, The EU could create an online EU database where all products sold in the in the EU are registered for EU citizens to search for products on the basis of their intolerances.

Additionally, acid reflux disease and esophageal cancers are on the rise, especially in the young. An EU medical committee is required to investigate the effects of mass consumption of multiple sources of acids on public health.

PEGs are added to pharmaceuticals when science reports state that 40% of people have anti-peg antibodies. If this is the case, the EU needs to create a policy where people are tested for anti-peg antibodies before being prescribe pharmaceuticals with this ingredient.

There needs to be responsibility regarding the negative health effects of accumulative or specific chemicals added to products that go into EU citizen’s bodies.

Dear Julia,

Thanks a lot for sharing your idea. We are looking forward to follow the discussion here on the Forum.

On that note: do you know about the Pharmaceutical Strategy and the Food safety initiative that the European Commission is implementing? Maybe some elements of those actions could be an interesting contribution to this discussion.

Best regards,
