Support The European Citizen Initiative against hunger

Updated on: 25/09/2018

With the support of a citizen committee, we want to help the 49 million Europeans who are suffering from hunger in the Union. We have launched a European Citizens Initiative (ECI) with the aim of prompting European governments to embrace the hunger problem, which is still a major concern.

The number of people suffering from food scarcity in the EU is estimated at 46 million (8 % of the total EU population) and 118 million are at risk of poverty (23 % of the total EU population).

With the EU having the second largest GDP in the world it is unacceptable to still have people who are not able to get a quality meal daily in Europe.

The initiative not only emphasises the responsibility of governments, but also highlights the cost impact related to hunger and proposes a list of actions that will significantly reduce or eradicate this social issue. These include:

  • Proposal 1: Eradicate the culture of waste so as to generate 44 million tonnes of food within 2 years.
  • Proposal 2: Implement a Financial Transaction Tax to generate EUR 30 billion per year.
  • Proposal 3: Hunger should be solved by public authorities, not through charity.
  • Proposal 4: Stop food speculation.
  • Proposal 5: Qualitative proposal

You can find all information about our approach on our website (www.foodright.eu).

In order to successfully collect one million statements of support, we are looking for an organisation that can help us in the European Union by:

  • sharing this information with the organisation, staff, friends, family, etc.
  • helping us promote our approach
  • supporting the initiative at this link
  • bringing us closer to our goal with any idea, information or help.

We are looking forward to your support.
