Have you ever wondered who has the passion and drive to lead a European Citizens' Initiative (ECI)?
Recent data from the 2026 ECI Infographic shows a vibrant and diverse community behind these movements. On the geographic front, Italy leads the way with 233 organizers, followed closely by France (133) and Germany (124). But it’s not just about the big players: the story of engagement changes when we look at signatures relative to the MS population. For instance, Hungary and Malta have seen incredible mobilization, with 16.3% and 10.2% of their populations signing successful initiatives respectively.
When it comes to age, the energy of youth is undeniable! The 21–30 age group is the most active, accounting for 252 organizers across all initiatives. However, the 31–40 group often leads the charge for initiatives that eventually become successful. With 1,051 total organizers ranging from under 20 to over 80 years old, the ECI is truly a tool for all generations.
